About The Static Cult Label

The Static Cult Label is a tiny record label based in San Jose, California, with a little distribution through stickfigure, no press attention, no money, and no love for the man. Good times. We release our friends' albums.

We release records, compact discs, cassettes and other things in very small quantities. The most recent products have been in handmade packaging and we will probably continue to do that; except for vinyl releases, where the packaging seems fine to us.

We have just gobbled up the Somber Atlantic Records label from Seattle, Washington. We are reissuing some of Somber Atlantic's releases (originally short run compact discs in digipaks) as limited cassette editions, free downloads, or both.

FAQs

“My Band Rules, Can We Be On TSCL?”

We haven't yet released something that has been sent to us in the mail, but we appreciate the gesture. And your band might be the one that makes it to the TSCL bigtime. You can send demos to the address below. Don't bother with the glossy photos and wasting paper on folders and bios. Just music and contact information is fine. Or better yet, email us a link to your myspace/website. Make sure you change all the references to "Sub Pop" or whoever to "The Static Cult Label" when you paste in your canned text.

“What's With These Fancy Icons?”

Come on, it's not that complicated. Our releases are available in different formats, as indicated by these icons:
compact disc Compact Disc
vinyl Vinyl Record
download Download
cassette Cassette
tshirt T-Shirt

“Can I Just Send You Some Money?”

Absolutely. You can also send demos, valentines, gifts, requests, or other communique to this address:

The Static Cult Label
123 Cottage Grove Avenue
San Jose, CA 95110
United States of America

Or paypal your donations to info@thestaticcultlabel.com.

“Is TSCL Still Releasing Compact Discs?”

We are, but mostly just in super limited runs, in handmade packaging. Releases will be on vinyl whenever possible. Maybe we'll also do some things on some other dead formats (cassette, 8-track, reel-to-reel), but everything should also have a downloadable version to interface with your digital lifestyle, nerds.

“Why Can't I Just Get [band] Music From iTunes and Shit?”

Fine, buy DRM media from iTunes and shit. But here are some reasons why you should buy actual physical products direct from TSCL whenever possible:

* TSCL packaging rules your face.
* More money goes to the artists when you buy directly from TSCL.
* DRM is annoying.
* Audio quality is potentially better if you rip from TSCL physical products.

“But Do You Have a Recording Studio?”

Sort of. It's not open to the public, but anyone on the label has access to it. Welcome to the big time, TSCL artists.

“I Ordered [product] Weeks Ago! Where is it, Jerks?”

Sorry, sometimes we lag just a little bit getting stuff out. If it's been a while, we usually throw in something extra to try to make you forget that you waited so long.

“Did I Hear Br**sts on a WNBA Commercial?”

Yes, they sold out a long time ago.
